A region like this can’t be “seen”, it must be experienced – taken in with all of your senses as you walk in the footsteps of Roman emperors, sip limoncello as the sun sets over the yacht-studded harbor, meander along irresistible alleyways and dine on delectable, fresh seafood in local trattorie. Each day brings just the right combination of invigorating walks, private visits and guided tours, along with a healthy dose of spontaneity so that you can fully immerse yourself in the local cultural and stunning beauty that is the Sorrentine Coast.

From the bustling, magical streets of Sorrento to an active lemon farm to a hands-on cooking lesson with a local family, our Sorrento Cultural Adventure is an immersion into the rich and unique cultural of one of Italy’s most spectacular regions. From Sorrento to Capri to Positano you’ll take in stunning views across the Bay of Naples, explore charming alleyways and enjoy delectable, regionally-inspired meals. Along the way you’ll meet welcoming locals and visit tucked away sites that are off the beaten path.

ITINERARY

DAY 1: Arrival Sorrento

  • Highlights: Arrival, welcome at hotel
  • Dinner

We begin our adventure together at our boutique hotel accommodations in the historic center of Sorrento. After check-in we’ll meet up for a trip overview, followed by short to walk to take in spectacular views of the Bay of Naples and Mount Vesuvius. A welcome aperitivo and dinner follows.

DAY 2: Capri

  • Highlights: Ferry ride to Capri, walking tour Capri and Annacapri
  • Breakfast, Dinner

This morning, after an early breakfast, we’re off to the ferry dock for an excursion to the beautiful Isle of Capri. After arriving, we’ll explore the small town center of Capri, followed by a shuttle ride to the opposite side of the island, and the shop-lined avenues of Anacapri. Here we’re pay a visit to the historic Chiesa St. Michele, along with stops at some other hidden gems, including a scenic chairlift ride to the top of Mt. Solaro (optional). After lunch on your own, we’ll make our way back to Sorrento where you’ll have free time to rest and recharge.

This evening we’ll meet up for a delicious pizza dinner at our friends’ friendly pizzeria.

DAY 3: Sorrento 

  • Highlights: Guided tour historic center Sorrento, cooking class
  • Breakfast, Dinner

This morning, after breakfast at the hotel, we’ll join up with our friend, Sasha – an exceptional local guide –  who will take you through Sorrento’s art-filled duomo and the amazing Chiesa di St. Agostino, along with a few amazing stops in between. Afterwards you’ll have an opportunity to explore and shop before enjoying lunch on your own at any one of the town’s inviting outdoor cafes.

This afternoon we meet up with our friend, Pia, for a private tour of an enormous lemon grove, where you’ll learn about the history and production of lemons in Sorrento – truly amazing! Afterwards you’re in for a treat as we join Pia and her family for a private cooking experience that is nothing less than delightful. In addition to local specialties, you’ll learn how to make the local version of limoncello. Of course dinner follows, featuring your homemade dishes.

DAY 4: Pompeii 

  • Highlights: Guided tour Pompeii
  • Breakfast, Aperitivo

This morning we get an early start as our private driver, along with our guide, Sasha, transports us to the archeological park of Pompeii. Here you’ll enjoy a jaw-dropping guided tour Pompeii, as you explore ancient Roman avenues and learn the real story of the city’s destruction and astounding excavation. Afterwards you can grab lunch on your own at the park’s cafe before we make our way back to Sorrento.

This afternoon, after some time to rest and recharge, we’ll meet up for an abundant aperitivo at a special location overlooking the sea. This evening you’re free to enjoy dinner on your own.

DAY 5: Marina Grande

  • Highlights: walk to Marina Grande, excursion to Sorrento winery
  • Breakfast, Lunch

This morning you might enjoy exploring or shopping on your own, or meet up for an invigorating walk to scenic Marina Grande, Sorrento’s charming, tucked away fishing village with its stunning views towards Mount Vesuvius. Afterwards our driver will be taking us to a family-owned winery with spectacular views over the sea. Here you’ll enjoy a private tour followed by a delectable lunch buffet of local specialties paired with the estate’s wines. Truly unforgettable!

In late afternoon we make our way back to Sorrento, where you’ll have the rest of the evening on your own.

DAY 6: Positano

  • Highlights: Excursion to Positano, farewell dinner
  • Breakfast, Dinner

This morning, after breakfast, our driver will take us on a scenic journey across the peninsula to the Amalfi coast, and the famous cliffside town of Positano. Here you can explore the winding, steep avenues, lined with colorful shops, or take a fascinating tour of the duomo and its crypt. You might find an inviting restaurant for lunch along the seaside, or grab a gelato on one of the tucked away avenues. Afterwards we’ll make our way back to Sorrento.

This afternoon you might might get in some last-minute shopping, book a massage at a nearby spa or enjoy a walk to the panoramic overlook. This evening we’ll gather together for a celebratory aperitivo followed by an elegant, farewell dinner at a Sorrentine restaurant that is famous for its exceptional local dishes.

DAY 7: Departure

  • Luggage: We suggest traveling with one medium-size checked bag and one carry-on bag. Please avoid traveling with oversized baggage and be prepared to handle your own luggage, if/when necessary. We suggest packing light.
  • Walking:  This tour is designed for active travelers who enjoy walking. You can expect village walks, countryside walks, steep avenues in hill towns and stairs. If you are unable to walk in this manner, or have a health condition that would impede your ability to keep up with the group, we advise that this tour is not the right fit for you.
